Is Minecraft Dungeons 2 open world?
More connected than Dungeons 1, still dungeon-like pockets. Not a Java sandbox.
Minecraft Dungeons 2 walkthrough: Overworld rifts, Sift, Illager High Council. Not a Dungeons 1 mission list. Steam, Xbox, PS5, Switch. Verified Sep 2026.
Campaign footage through Overworld rifts into the Sift.

This Minecraft Dungeons II walkthrough tracks the campaign spine: a more connected Overworld scarred by rifts and Sculk, the Sift dimension those rifts open, and the Illager High Council that threatens both. It is not a beat-by-beat spoiler dump and not a pasted Dungeons 1 mission list. Mojang Studios, Double Eleven / Xbox Game Studios. Buy on Steam. Verified September 30, 2026.
Footage for map and first Sift traversal follows ZackScott irSGYLD_eVk (Gameplay Walkthrough Part 1 — The Sift). Use it for camera language: settlements, rifts, dimension shift. Do not copy his chat, guesses, or unverified HP. Named fights like Twisted Warden get their own pages.

After the first game, the Overworld does not stay quiet. Official copy: rifts appear, anomalies follow, wildlife and monsters get strange energy, Sculk spreads across regions, and Illagers organize under a three-leader High Council. The player investigates rifts, pushes that Council, and deals with corruption that spans Overworld and Sift.
Quest types in public notes include investigating anomalies, tracking mysterious enemies, helping NPCs, finding missing items, handling creature and environment crises, exploring both worlds, and earning XP plus gear. Examples that have been named in briefing docs: a beekeeper’s missing bees, tracking the Twisted Warden, rift and corruption investigations, and confronting the Council. Those are direction signs, not a spoiler checklist of every cutscene.
Main quests and side quests both exist. This page will not invent recommended levels, exact reward tables, or “skip this side quest, it is 0.4% loot.” If a settlement merchant is closed, assume a local job is the gate until the UI says otherwise.
You are not choosing “Overworld campaign” or “Sift DLC.” The Council plan is written as dual-world. Skipping every rift to speedrun grass biomes is how you arrive at a Council fight with the wrong language.
Dungeons 1 taught a lobby of discrete missions. Minecraft Dungeons II uses a more coherent world: large connected regions, main events, side events, settlements, buildings, fast-travel hubs, points of interest, caves, ruins, a world map, and areas that may change layout when you return. You still fight in dungeon-like pockets. You do not get Java creative mode.
Navigate with the map. Use teammate teleport when the party splits across a cliff. Do not assume every cave is optional flavor — some hide rifts, merchants, or story NPCs. Community databases have claimed counts such as 12 regions, 12 rift points, 5 merchants, and conflicting minecart-station totals (19 vs 30). Those are source-tagged guesses. Re-count in your patch.
ZackScott’s Part 1 (irSGYLD_eVk) is useful because it starts fresh and walks into the Sift as a feature, not a menu wallpaper. Watch for how the Overworld presents a rift, then stop the video if you want to discover the next biome yourself.

Stop when a merchant, Enchantsmith, fast-travel flag, or rift feels locked. Public systems put NPCs and buildings in the world on purpose. A “just mainline” run is how you fight Sift natives with empty talisman slots.
Side jobs still award XP and gear in official language. They are also how you learn the connected map. If four players are impatient, split: one person turns in the local quest while others defend the square — then share the unlock, not four people running four different markers in silence.
Do not treat every question-mark as a unique farm. This walkthrough will not publish a “best emerald per minute” route. Play until the next story beat makes sense.
Enter when an Overworld rift is the objective, not when a random YouTube title screams “secret dimension skip.” The Sift has its own environments, enemies, and mysteries. It is a core advertised space. Treat the first traversal as story literacy: new tells, new biomes, possibly different loot language.
Bring dodge, a ranged option (ammo regen still applies), and whatever library lines you already stamped. Do not wait for a perfect unique. Dimension notes live on Sift. Bestiary noise lives on mobs.
If a creator says the Sift is “coming to vanilla Minecraft,” treat that as their claim unless Minecraft.net says it. This wiki’s fact file does not promote that crossover as confirmed.

Search will try to rename it. It is a Dungeons II dimension accessed by rifts. Java portal muscle memory will mislead you.
Matched by build plan, shared topics, and guide progression — not random related links.
Official story copy names three leaders: Prime Enchanter, Supreme Evoker, and Grand Illusioner. They are the Illager organizational threat, not a random patrol name. Expect encounters, arenas, or campaign beats tied to those titles as you push both worlds.
This page will not invent phase counts, exact mechanics, or drop percentages for those fights. When you see the HUD name, believe the HUD. Community databases sometimes prefix “The” on Evoker or Enchanter — match what your build shows.
The Council plan affects Overworld and Sift together. Beating one named Illager does not mean you can ignore the dimension you skipped.
Official / story-named: Illager High Council trio; Twisted Warden as a tracked threat in briefing examples. Fight habits: Twisted Warden.
Community databases also list or mention: Copper Monstrosity, Monarch, Monstrous Opus, Sculk Monstrosity, Mosstrosity, Redstone Monstrosity, Soul Corrupted Witch, and more. Some dumps say about 10 major bosses; file-oriented dumps say about 16. This wiki tags those as community / game-data / TBA, not as a spoiler order.
Do not paste HP, resistances, or drop rates from a spreadsheet we did not measure. Fan animations are not move lists. If a name never appears in your bestiary, it may be unused data or a later patch.
| Name | Tag |
|---|---|
| Prime Enchanter | Official Council |
| Supreme Evoker | Official Council |
| Grand Illusioner | Official Council |
| Twisted Warden | Named sequel fight · verify kit in patch |
| Copper / Sculk / Redstone Monstrosity, Monarch, Opus, Mosstrosity, Soul Corrupted Witch | Community / file-found · TBA in your HUD |
Whether a boss is story-once or farmable is TBA per fight until the bestiary says so. Do not plan a unique farm on a rumor.
Share a Party Code when stores differ. Mixed local plus online is in store copy. Call rift entries so nobody is still shopping in a settlement while three people load the Sift.
Assign coverage: someone watches telegraphs, someone peels packs, someone holds a ranged kite, someone carries the interact button for NPC turn-ins. Four identical melee uniques is how you wipe to a Council add wave.
Do not spoil the next named fight in voice if a friend asked for a blind run. Point them at this page’s structure, not a timestamp of the kill.
We will not list every chest, every cutscene line, or a fake “optimal unique at 8:12.” We will not invent recommended power levels. We will not order file-found bosses as if they were the credits sequence.
We will keep linking systems pages so you can leave this spine and come back: beginner guide for combat, enchantments for books, Sift for dimension rules, mobs for name tags, cross-play for Party Code.
If your patch adds a region this article does not name, trust the in-game map. Launch week moves. Verified September 30, 2026.
ZackScott’s Part 1 is a camera reference, not a sacred route. He starts fresh and walks into the Sift because that is the sequel’s headline space. Your party might clear two settlement jobs first. Both are valid if the next rift still happens. What is not valid is copying a Dungeons 1 wiki’s mission numbers onto this Overworld.
When you need numbers this page refuses — exact rift counts, merchant maps, unique rates — leave a TBA gap. Community dumps that say twelve rifts or five merchants are homework for an in-game pass, not copy-paste facts. Same rule as mobs: tag the source or do not publish.
Dimension rules: Sift.
Named fight: Twisted Warden.
Name tags: mobs.
Kits: beginner guide and enchantments.
More connected than Dungeons 1, still dungeon-like pockets. Not a Java sandbox.
Overworld anomalies and rifts, Sift expeditions, Illager High Council pressure on both worlds. Not a Dungeons 1 mission-select list.
Treat rifts as story pillars. Skipping the dimension fights the dual-world premise.
Dumps disagree (~10 vs ~16). Use the in-game bestiary. Council trio plus Twisted Warden are the names this page treats as story-facing.
Yes — up to four, including Party Code and mixed local/online per store copy.
